Floral Capital's second branch specializes in being a coconut pack-house, with plans of adding other produce in the future. The pack-house proudly stands on freehold land with a capacity of 30K-40K coconuts dispatched daily. These numbers are up by 100% from previous years, with a forecast of pushing the numbers even higher.
The land of Ratchburi is gifted for growing coconuts. It takes 3-3.5 years for a tree to mature and produce famous sweet Thai coconuts. Each tree yields 10-20 coconuts every 15-20 days. Floral Capital is proud to be GMP, HACCP certified, and works with Global Gap-certified farmers. We also hold Organic Agriculture Certification in regards to our Coconut pack-house.
In 2022, we achieved the SMETA (Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit) social compliance certificate, ensuring a safe work environment, labor health & safety, and ethical practices. The packhouses now employ over 350 employees and we are always recruiting more to meet the demand of Thai coconuts.
Preserving Freshness: 6 Essential Steps for Coconut Preservation Across the Cool Chain
Unloading:
We receive 4-5 truckloads of fresh green coconuts every day from certified farmers. Each truck brings about 2K-5K coconuts. We first sort the coconuts by suppliers, then manually assess if the coconuts are in good condition and bear no damage.
Cut & shape:
In total, coconuts have 4 layers. In this stage, we cut off the external layer and shape the coconuts into the famous diamond shape with a flat bottom. The top skin is cut thinner and the bottom thicker, so that the end consumer can cut the coconut easily.
Cleaning the coconut peel:
Coconuts are dipped in a solution for 3-10 minutes to remove external impurities and, clean them and, enhance their white exterior.
Sort by customer guidelines:
Based on customer guidelines (ex: soft & sweet skin, sweet water, thick skin, etc.), coconuts are sorted again. Our staff checks them for maturity, size, leakage, damage, etc., before proceeding to the packing stage.
Wrap & pack:
All coconuts are wrapped in a net foam to prevent damage due to collision, followed by a film wrap, and then the clients logo on a sticker. We pack under clients brandname (as per requirements laid in the contract), with their artwork. We come up with the packaging which is approved by client. Storage:
Newly packed coconuts are led into cold storage with the temperature set to 5-8 degrees Celsius. Once these coconuts are put into the container for delivery, the temperature is brought down to 1 degree Celsius, and clients are recommended to maintain this temperature and not break the Cool-chain.
We also take pride in a special packaging called coconuts with openers: a plastic opener is pre-inserted in to the coconut, so the end consumer can easily drink coconut water without the hassle of opening it by using a big knife. Its a safer option of drinking coconuts. And many of our clients are asking for these.
